ASL's
technical services areas are listed below. ASL personnel with many years of specialized experience and
training create exceptional products in each area. Our test facilities provide
additional resources to support specialized needs.

Thermal
Analysis
ASL performs thermal modeling, design, and analysis on complex space
systems and components. ASL has provided thermal engineering services
to many customer. In particular, ASL has been providing continuous
thermal engineering support to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)
since 1996. Our staff have received several prestigious
awards for outstanding service from NASA and JPL. |

Test & Measurements
ASL maintains a thermal test facility that consists
of a 25” diameter stainless steel chamber with temperature controlled baseplate and shrouds. ASL has performed thermal development tests on
spacecraft components, as well as measured the thermal conductivity of advanced
insulation materials from room temperature to over 1000K. |

Thermal Insulation
Analysis, Optimization, and Testing
ASL has in-depth experience in the analysis and testing of
high performance thermal insulation materials such as space shuttle tile TPS,
fiber-reinforced aerogels, fiber batt insulation, woven fabrics, etc. ASL
has developed theoretical models that can accurately predict the thermal
radiative properties and heat transfer characteristics of thermal
insulations that are fabricated of fibers, aerogel, and particles. The
theoretical models are based on a rigorous consideration of
electromagnetic scattering and radiative transfer theory and have been validated with
published test data. ASL has published and presented more than 40 papers in
archival journals and conferences on the theory and testing of thermal
insulations. |
