ASL's primary business areas are listed below. ASL personnel with many years of specialized experience and
training create exceptional products in each business area. Our laboratory facilities provide several additional resources that
are available to support client-specific requirements in these areas.

Advanced
Computing Applications
ASL's Advanced Computing Division is highly skilled in providing a wide-range of high-performance computing
solutions targeting all popular computing platforms.
For example, under prime contract to the U.S. Department of Defense, ASL
develops highly specialized, rule-based expert software applications that
are used to predict the performance of microwave and laser weapon systems.
The "Heimdall" microwave simulation system
serves as the U.S. standard for forecasting the capability of foreign
systems. For the U.S. Department of Energy's National Laboratories, ASL
develops and enhances data acquisition and control systems.

Spacecraft Thermal
Engineering
Under prime contract to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), ASL
conducts detailed design, evaluation, and testing of
spacecraft thermal control systems developed for the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration (NASA). Our staff have received several
prestigious awards for outstanding service from NASA and JPL. We perform
similar services for the U.S. private sector in support of Air Force and
NASA mission applications. |

 |
Thermal Protection
Materials
Under prime contract to NASA and the National Science Foundation, ASL
develops specialized thermal protection materials. These
materials show promise for advanced high- and low-temperature applications
for space- and ground-based systems as well as the potential for
specialized optical properties. We perform theoretical analyses of thermal
radiation transport through materials; properties are verified
experimentally at the company's thermophysics
laboratory. |

Education Research and
Technology Development
With the support of the U.S. Department of Education, ASL
conducts education research programs that focus on the
identification and resolution of unique needs that impede the academic
performance of children. In partnership with community groups and the
federal government, we are performing research to determine the
educational needs of the United States-Mexico border region and the
environmental factors that impact academic performance. |

 |
Speech Recognition
Systems
Under prime contract to the U.S. Department of Education, ASL
is developing speech-recognition systems that support the
educational needs of hearing-impaired children. Our speech recognition
laboratory is used during all stages of product development. Development
projects are conducted in partnership with U.S. schools. |
| |
 |
Environmental
Services
Under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, ASL
supports various environmental management programs at the
Department's Headquarters, Albuquerque and Idaho Operations Offices,
Carlsbad Area Office, and Environmental Measurements Laboratory. Project
areas include: environmental compliance and assessments, restoration and
waste management of sites, development of information systems, resource
management, technology evaluations, and the development of international
and domestic partnerships. |

 |
Technology
Transfer
Under prime contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, ASL
leads contractor support for the exchange of innovative
environmental technologies with Mexico's government, academic and industry
sectors. In support of the National Laboratories, ASL
led contractor support for international technology
cooperation that yielded both the import and export of technologies. Our
staff have received several awards of recognition by DOE's Sandia National
Laboratories. In addition, we facilitate technology transfer from U.S.
federal R&D laboratories to U.S. utilities. |
